“Your glorying is not good. Know ye not that a little leaven
leaveneth the whole lump?” (1 Corinthians 5:6)
A LITTLE LEAVEN
“What does leaven mean?”
asked Joshua to his Mom one day.
“It’s very easy, my dear son,
pay close attention to what I say.
“A little leaven, leavens the whole lump
like yeast Mom puts into her bread.
And when it rises, it becomes a loaf.
You eat it, Josh, that’s what you’re fed.
“The yeast is like a little lie.
It says a word that isn’t true.
That lie gets covered by another.
You know just what I mean, don’t you?
“When you tell me, ‘Mom, wait a minute,’
and you make me wait not one but two,
you didn’t keep your word, you see.
What you said then sure wasn’t true.
“If you get used to saying fibs,
like ‘A little lie won’t hurt,’ you say,
but pretty soon you believe your lies.
Be careful, son, don’t go astray!
“It only takes a little crack
for water to break through the dike
and soon that crack will open wide.
The flood that comes, no one will like.
“If we ask our Father in Jesus’ name
to help us speak the truth each day,
He’ll keep us from deceiving others.
The truth will never lead astray.
“The Truth is Jesus. He’s our Lord.
He can not lie to us at all.
His Spirit helps to understand
and to repent each time we fall.
